Analyzing a Trend (Second Draft)
A decrease in tobacco usage among adolescents, over the last decade.

Despite the government’s efforts over decade to stop tobacco usage, the smoking still exists throughout today; still managing to survive all the strict enforced law from the government. For example, in April 1970, the house of Congress passed the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act. When people turn on the TV (Television Screen), they will no longer see Marlboro man, or any commercial for cigarettes. Besides, it is not just the government who is trying to reduce smoking; there are other organizations who are putting efforts to reduce smoking as well. For example, organizations such as World Health Organization are known as one of the leading organizations trying to fight for smoking. American Legacy Foundation is also one of the active organizations trying to stop smoking. The ultimate goals of these organizations are similar, to reduce the usage of smoking, an especially from adolescents and teenagers, where they are likely to pick up smoking as habit.
According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), “The prevalence of past month use of any tobacco product among adolescents (i.e., youths aged 12 to 17) declined between 2002 and 2008, from 15.2 to 11.4 percent” (SAMHSA). If this rate continues every year, then cigarette companies will likely to have fewer customers in the future. For example, many of adult smokers, more than half had their first cigarettes before age 18. In addition, more than half became daily smoker before that age according to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The above graph shows declining rates of cigarettes among adolescents, where there age groups are among the age of 12 to 17.  Notice how there is no significant difference in change of smokeless tobacco and pipe tobacco.
One of the few factors of declining tobacco usage among the adolescent are an increased health education from the early ages of school. Where most of the adolescents get to understand that tobacco usage can lead to lung cancer or further health issues. Organizations like National Center for Tobacco Free Kids are helping to keep cigarettes out of school. Furthermore, many states also have increased their enforcement of the Synar Amendment. In July 1992, The House of Congress enacted the Synar Amendment to prohibit the access to tobacco products among adolescents who are under 18. The result of the enforcement was tremendous. “In 2008, the national retailer violation rate was 9.9 percent the lowest rate since the program began in 1996” (Center for Substance Abuse Prevention).
Second, factor could be the cost of the expanse for being a smoker. The one-third of the price smokers pay at the store counter are government’s taxes, and those prices aren't likely to go down. It is not just tax that is motivating smokers to quit smoking, health insurance and health benefits also plays critical roles in the aspects. According to Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, “Men who smoke incur $15,800 (in 2002 dollars) more in lifetime medical expenses and are absent from work 4 days more per year than men who do not smoke.” (Warner KE).

Third, factor is obviously health issues taking the place.  Many people are becoming more aware of health problem relate to smoking. One of the well known health problems related to smoking is cancer, especially in the lung, mouth, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidney, pancreas, and cervix. (Boffetta P)

Above picture shows a good working healthy lung tissue and diseased lung tissue where it looks lot like burned cigarette. Not to mention Smoking cigarettes kills more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined. Also, it is number one preventable deaths of all (Center for Substance Abuse Prevention).
The overall impact of not smoking does not just only apply smokers, it has impact for everyone in beneficial way. According to Jeffery E. Harris MD PhD, the estimate of cigarette smoking accounts for 8 percent of all health- care spending in the United States. The range of uncertainty in the estimate is from 4.2 percent to 11.5 percent. If all the person in United States quit smoking, the insurance rate of health insurance will go down dramatically and it will benefit each individual. Furthermore, it would greatly reduce health related problem for second hand smoking. This will also play the same role of bringing insurance rate down, since it would lower the overall health care spending.
In addition, reduced environmental cost will be another effect toward decreased smoking among adolescents. According to Thomas P. Holmes, a research study shows that half of the wildfire is initiated by man, mostly caused of littering cigarette. It is just not wildlife but also littering is serious problem among keeping the city’s clean. According to studies done by Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, littering cigarette does not end from cleaning, but the future problem is also insisted. Since, these contaminants can get into soils and waterways, harm or kill living organisms and generally degrade surrounding ecosystems.  In addition, government’s spending will not just end from cleaning the environment. They will be likely to spend more money on the environment as well, in order to restore the damage done by cigarettes.
Nevertheless, cigarette companies still exist, and they are still making the large amount of sales over addicted cigarette users. However, they are likely to lose more sales in the future, because they are losing customers and they are not just ordinary customers, they are the younger generations of America.

Annotating a Scholarly Article (Second Draft)
Wakefield, Robin L. "Network security and password policies." The CPA Journal 74.7 (2004): 6+. Academic OneFile. Web. 7 Apr. 2010.

In his article, Professor Robin explains about how easily computer security is breached, due to weak or short passwords. In addition, he also explains the consequences of security breach from the business manager’s perspective. Few key points from his article are that, the password must be memorized and it must be frequently changed. Second, the user must create stronger password to prevent hackers from exploiting the user’s password. This article helps not only those people who are in the large organization or complex business infrastructure where everyday computing is critical, but it also provides useful information to the everyday computer users where everyday computing requires password usage.

Although, Professor Robin explains about how weak passwords can lead to a security breach, majorly the article itself does not explains about the network security well enough. The article is majorly about consequence and prevention of weak password, it does not isolate the explanation about network security itself. Therefore, which I advice author to change the title to avoid confusion, where professional reader understands this article lacks in detail. After all, Professor Robin is PhD in accounting, and has MTA degree (The master of tax accounting) with BS in biology (bachelor degree in biology). Although, he has done a quite good job comparing human and computer discovery of password, it would have been nearly perfect if he provide source or the method how he tested his project. Furthermore, considering the fact that this article was made back in 2004, it has lack of information on how to create stronger password. Anyone from professional background can notice this weakness as you read through the article. In order to create stronger password, the password not only requires to be longer, but it also requires to use special character such as ( !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ) and so on. Nevertheless, author lacks on information where he doesn’t even explain the difference between combination passwords to regular alphabetical passwords. First combination will be a lower alpha-numeric password. Second combination will be usage of capital and lower alpha-numeric password. The main advantage of using capital + lower alpha-numeric password is that it takes more computational time is needed to achieve the combination of the password. In a simpler meaning, using capital-alpha numeric will take a longer time to figure out the password. In addition to using a capital and lower alpha-numeric password, using special characters with combination of capital + alpha-numeric will generate even stronger password.

Overall, Professor Robin done a fabulous job explaining to those non-technical users on how longer password creates stronger passwords, where his approach might catch the eyes of those non-technical readers. However, it lacks on the detail of information. The article itself is far outdated by the professional standards, since he did not explain about using special and capital for alpha-numeric passwords.

# How do you feel about the paper so far? Please explain and offer evidence from the work.

This time, I have well considered point of view from the non-technical readers and made it simplest as possible. It took sure amount of time to write and re-write the writing : )

# What remains to be done? Please be precise.

I might have written too much. Nevertheless, I wanted to well explain to those non-technical readers.

# What questions do you have for readers about the piece?

Overall, do you get the idea that having a stronger password is key point to a good security? Do you? DO YOU? DOOOO YOU??? : )

Wakefield, Robin L. "Network security and password policies." The CPA Journal 74.7 (2004): 6+. Academic OneFile. Web. 7 Apr. 2010.

In his article, Professor Robin explains about how security breach and password policies have a close relationship to each other. Furthermore, he also explains about how short password or blank password can lead to security breach, which he also explains a possible security infrastructure and solution to prevent security breach for large company.

Although Professor Robin explains about security breach and weak passwords, he does not well explain about network security. Most of his writing is about a possible breach from weak password not the security breach from network escalation. He should have changed his topic since article is mostly about weak password, not the network exploit. May be he used topic network security since most of the network requires a password to gain access. Also, he has lack of information of how to create stronger password. Anyone from professional point of view can notice this weakness as you read through the article; because he does well explaining longer password takes longer amount of time and effort to crack. But he does not explain about difference between using lower alpha-numeric password and capital + lower alpha-numeric password. The difference is the how stronger password becomes, if you use capital + lower alpha-numeric and + and include at least 2 special characters it would be strongest password to create. Even though password might be 8 characters, when you use capital + lower alpha-numeric password with special characters, it takes even longer amount to crack.

Nevertheless, Professor Robin well explains about how longer password creates stronger passwords, but it lacks on technical point of view, since he did not explain about using special and capital for alpha-numeric passwords.

Proposal (Second Draft)

A harmony between smoker and non-smoker

Currently, in the world there are approximately 1.2 billion smokers exist according to World Health Organization. Without any surprise our Bristol Community College (BCC) falls under this statistical calculation that would mean at least half of the student in BCC are smokers. Realizing how large numbers of students in BCC are smokers, BCC is enforcing a new policy that no one is allowed to smoke on campus area. In addition, anyone who is convicted smoking in the campus area will be subjected to a fine.

All though, I am not a smoker and I don’t have problem against this new rule. I find this rule quite unfair to those students and faculty members who are smokers in BCC. Not that I am unaware of how dangerous smoking is and its effects to a person, when especially second hand smoking is proven silent killer according to World Health Organization. Likewise, BCC administration knows this plan in effect will not get a full participation from student and faculty itself. In addition, trying to further enforce the law by giving a fine to students and faculty itself is just pushing more people to go against this rule.

Therefore, rather than prohibiting the smoking itself from campus ground, I think it would be wiser to use alternative solutions. What would be a creative solution that would make harmony between smokers and non-smokers, while having the same effect as prohibiting the smoking in the campus area? I think this can be done by creating smoking zone. It is most unique and smartest way to effectively reduce second hand smoking. For example, many times when student gets out of the library or any other faculty building, there are at least two or three people standing around entrance area like if it is a smoking zone. Now as non-smoker, this is painful situation since they have to go through that smokes while breathing the harmful stuff from cigarette.

As I observe campus area, three out of five students were actually smoking outside of entrance area of each building rather than while walking. This proves effectiveness of creating smoking zone close to entrance of each building. Because smokers do not have to bother non-smokers, smokers can freely smoke around smoking zone near building area, which they will be away from the non-smokers. While this plan is in effect, BCC administration must prohibit smoking from any other area other then the smoking zone itself. Doing this it will benefit not just to non-smokers, but it will also benefit those who are smokers, since they do not have to walk all the way to parking lot to smoke. These similar ideas were followed by in the Japan, a country that has high density of people throughout city, the unique about Japans is that they actually have a smoking zone throughout work area or though out the building structure where the smoking room is ventilated through top of the building. In fact, they do not have to go outside on cold or rainy day for smoking.
As far as I am concern about cost of creating smoking zone throughout facility, it is cost effective since our campus has so much open area at each and every building. All the administration has to do is create zone around every building with where smokers will be free to smoke in those areas only.

Nevertheless, I think this plan is far more effective then banning the smoking completely, it is just unrealistic. This plan will not only be beneficial to the non-smoker, but it will be also beneficial to those who are smokers as well. In the end, let us hope that the main source of problem has been closed down, what I meant by the source is the cigarette company that provides thousands and billions of cigarettes every day. After all, all the smokers are just victims of cigarette companies.

Coexistence between smoker and non-smoker

Currently, in the world there are approximately 1.2 billion smokers exist throughout the world. Without any surprise our own BCC community falls under this statistical calculation, that would mean almost half of the BCC or at least fewer than 40 percent are smokers in BCC. Without any sympathy or kindness to the smokers, BCC administrations will be enforcing a new rule that anyone smoking inside the campus area would be subject to fine. This means students have to leave the facility area completely to smoke or another meaning could be not to smoke at all.

Even though, I am not a smoker and I don’t have problem against this new rule, but I found this rule quite unfair to half of the student in BCC. Not that I am unaware of how dangerous smoking is and its effects of smoking to a person, or the chemical effect relate to second hand smokers, but rather than banning the smoking itself from campus ground and making smoking itself sort of illegal activity around campus. I think it would be wiser we find alternative solutions. Obviously, Bcc administration knows this plan in effect will not get a full participation from student and faculty itself. In addition, trying to further enforce the law by giving a fine to students and faculty itself is just pushing more people to veto against this rule.

Therefore, alternative solution must be given to this problem. As I mean alternative solution, wouldn’t be just better to create smoking zone, instead of getting thousands of complain from smokers? As, students I think most of the students are aware that second hand smoke is a proven silent killer. They will respect the Bcc administration if they actually give coordinating smoking zone throughout each building. In the Japan, a country that has high density of people throughout city, they actually have a smoking zone throughout work area or though out the building structure where the smoking room is ventilated through top of the building for smokers. So they do not have to go outside on cold or rainy day for smoking. This smoking zone can be made throughout the campus area. In addition, enforcing the law to not to smoke on any other area rather the than smoking zone in campus will be more effective rather than banning it completely.

As far as I am concern about cost of creating smoking zone throughout facility, it wouldn’t be that much. Since our campus have so much open area at each and every building. All the administration has to do is create zone around every building with bench and chairs and something to cover on top, so they could smoke even if it rains or snows.

Nevertheless, I think this plan is far superior then banning smoking completely through campus, it is just unrealistic and given non-connivance to smokers at all. I think it is just rude and disrespectable to students who are smokers. As students we understand change have to be made, but until better solution has given, I think this is quite affordable solution until the main sources of problem has been closed down. What I mean by the source is the cigarette company that provides thousands and billions of cigarettes every day.

News Story (Second Draft)

Help is already on its way with BCC.

The recent earthquake on Haiti has left us in sober, nevertheless BCC administrators felt same. That's why BCC is contributing donations for Haitian students to buy for the ticket to revisit their family and physically help them throughout the spring break of BCC. The nine students, who are now on their way to visit their family during the spring break of BCC, currently they have left the airport of United States since as the date of March 14, 2010, and they will be coming home by end this week.

The President of BCC, John J. Sbrega and the Vice President, Steve Ozug has been discussing the project to help Haiti, well as current administrator of BCC. Rather than just giving a large amount of donation to Haiti, or to a relief group, such as World Food Programe, or as well known Red Cross organization. The administrators of BCC wanted to specifically help the individual Haitian students who are currently attending BCC. In addition, BCC administrators and Vice president Steve Ozug had open discussion with Haitian student in the BCC, to get some ideas about what are the effective ways that BCC community can help the Haitian students. Eventually, many of the Haitian student proposed that it would be good if they get to visit their family and help their family situation throughout face to face.

Although, nine Haitian students from BCC already has left the airport of United State to airport of Haiti, the amount of money for BCC to buy airline tickets for nine Haitian students has not yet been reached. Since the amount of money for the Haitian student’s ticket was not enough by spring break, the international club in BCC has given the loan to buy the ticket for the Haitian student so they could visit their family during the weeks of spring break.

The ticketing was done by BCC’s associated travel agent, in order to make sure they arrive their safely and have place stay. Furthermore, there were few other Haitian students who also wanted to visit Haiti to help their siblings, but they have so many things going on with their own life, they simply couldn’t get excuse from the jobs. For those students who couldn’t travel since they have current job that they have to take care or any other reason, BCC is giving away any money that is raised above the requirements of ticket to the family of Haitian students who are currently struggling in Haiti. The administrators are making sure the contribution money will be transferred to the family who is affected by earthquake.

The Vice President Steve Ozug said “we are very close to reaching the amount of the money we need.” Also, student senate Abu Moro commented “it’s also nice to help people when they needed our help”. Previously Abu Moro and student senate has done bake sale for donation to Haiti students, they also donated a camera to Haitian students who are going to Haiti. In addition, Tutor club, International club, and Portuguese club has also went bake sale for donation to Haitian students.

This project is still on going until end of this semester, and the students who are coming back from Haiti would appreciate your support and donations as community in BCC. The location of donation box is in on G building, also for any large amount of donation will be accepted through enrollment center in G building.

Restoring agriculture in Haiti

On January 12, 2010, at 21:53 UTC, (4:53 pm local time) Haiti was struck by a magnitude-7.0 earthquake, the country's most severe earthquake in over 200 years. As result, an estimated three million people were severely affected, Furthermore, an estimated 230,000 people had been identified as dead, an estimated 300,000 injured, and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless according to Haitian Government reports. As best of effort to response to this crisis, World Food Programme and United Nations are already in the ground of Haiti and deployed various section thorough out the regions of Haiti.

As an aftermath of earthquake, Haiti’s entire supply chain infrastructure has been devastated, which resulting many people left without food and water, resulting more people than people who needed medical supply. According to Josette Sheeran who is executive director of World Food Programme, said “Parts of the capital Port-au-Prince look worse than many war zones.” According to Josette Sheeran, this relief operation against Haiti has been most complex relief operation WFP has ever faced. WFP have delivered more than 6 million meals to people in the capital and outlying areas isolated by the earthquake. They currently working around the clock, increasing each day the number of ready-to-eat rations for hungry people (so far 200,000), and distributing other essential items like water purification tablets from other humanitarian partners, according to Pedro Medrano, who is regional director of latin America and the Caribbean in WFP.

Currently they have accomplished many goals such as providing more than 4 million people with their food assistance. Mainly they are trying to respond to the special needs of children and pregnant women. In addition, they have started cooking meals for schoolchildren in Port-au-Prince, and their goal is to reach 72,000 children from 148 schools. Furthermore, the organization of WFP has nearly put 500 staff member on ground, operating around the clock to ensure many people as possible and give the food assistance they needed.

UMASS Amherst Application Essay.

Personal Statement
In 500 words or less, describe any personal circumstances or academic experiences (positive or negative) that you feel are important for us to know about you.

Did you know I was born eight month after the birth of internet? In March, 1989 World Wide Web was born. It was one of the historical moments of technology that really give us that wow feeling. Without realizing technology is already at our doorstep, like it’s our neighbor. Our world technological advance has already reached eutopia, with click of button I could order anything, anything starting from foods to largest order such as Nicola Tesla’s Tesla coil. With the click of button you could start video chatting from another side of earth. I was lucky because my father provided me with latest technology such as Intel 80486 microprocessor computer when I was seven years old. At the same time I was able to use internet when most of the children did not know the existence of internet.

Eventually, I was hooked on computers and I began building my first computer when I entered middle school. I have made so many computers since that time. I never gaze my eyes off computer at once. I ate near the computers, I slept near the computers, and I have basically lived with computer forever. I became so good with computers which I eventually opened a computer repair shop, when I was in high school. Furthermore, due to my father’s finical problem I wanted to help my father. During my high school, my father had found large cancer cell around his liver, and he was no longer able to work when I was in high school. So I started selling computers and fixing them when I was in high school, but What I did not realize was that my grade has fall down since I have put my all effort into selling computers rather than accomplish academic achievements.

Later on, I realize I wanted to do larger things. I wanted to build the stuff that no one else could think of. I wanted achieve unimaginable things that the most people haven’t thought of. I did not want to limit myself in the computers, but I wanted to build something greater. I wanted to build the automatic cleaning machine which will utilize the human time. I wanted to build a robot that will bring help to those disabled people. I wanted to control the light in my house with my voice. I wanted to drive my car from my cell phone. In order to bring all this to real life, I need more education. I enjoy learning, and thinking about bring these projects life make my heart go wonder. The greatest inventor Thomas Edison once said “I never did a day's work in my life. It was all fun.”

This is why I am applying in UMASS Amherst. Because UMSSS has one of the brightest computer engineering program far as I know. The students in UMASS already have made robots such as UBOT5. Far as I know attending UMASS is final frontier of my projects and goals, which eventually my dream will benefits the future and benefits to community. I also think greatest opportunity comes to people who know how to take great opportunity.

In 500 words or less, describe any personal circumstances or academic experiences (positive or negative) that you feel are important for us to know about you.

When I was born, I was born with the internet. In 1989 the World Wide Web was born, now known as the internet. Without any doubt our technological advance has already reached eutopia. With click of button I could order anything, starting from food to largest order such as Nicola Tesla’s Tesla coil. With click of button you could start video chatting from another side of earth. I was lucky because my father provided me with latest Intel 80486 microprocessor computer when I was age of seven. At the same time I was able to use internet when most of the children were did not know the existence of internet.

Eventually, I was hooked on computer engineering and I built my first computer when I entered middle school. I have made many computers since then, I never gaze my eyes off computer at once. I ate with computers, I sleep near the computers, I have basically live with computer forever. I became so good with computers which I eventually opened a computer repair shop, when I was in high school. Furthermore, due to my father’s finical problem I wanted to help my father. Metamorphosis

When I was age of seven, I could clearly remember the face of my mother who was standing front of me, asking me whether who I wanted to live with. Obviously I choose my father because my mother always hunted me with bamboo stick or physical therapy with rough slap. My mother was sharp as razor blade, also clean as Clorox. I was always in constant commend from my mother that I have to wash my hand thoroughly as I enter my house or in any activity. My clothes were always neatly in placed and she would be always constantly cleaning the house without using lots of amount time in cleaning. She didn’t allow single dust particle to touch my clothes nor myself.

Compare to my mother, my father was slow and lazy type of person, someone who would never able to complete my mother’s expectation to change. Eventually, she has given up the same routinely stressful life with my father. I even remember when my mother once asked me if I wanted to die with her, as if she wanted to commit suicide with me. Luckily, I did not make it to the front-line of the newspaper.

After the separation of my mother and my father, I was half adult. Living without the warmth of the parent, and having the freedom that seven year boy shouldn’t have. My father was always at work, I was all alone by myself. I lived in apartments, brick solid, and white color apartment. It was almost high as sky scraper twenty-three floor high. Every time I came back from the school, cold empty house waited me. No one was at home it was just empty dust and group of ants waited me quietly.

Education was not my best friend until I recently found out that I could not get the job I wanted. Only reason for this was lack of education. Before I was hooked on online games severely, since that was only way to depress my emptiness in my life. I use to leave my TV on before I go to sleep since I was scared of emptiness I felt when I was alone in room. These types of life pattern lead me to failure, a failure too late to be realized. I have failed in academic. I have failed for trying to achieve my goal and now I have failed for not achieving my dream. Without realizing I put myself into gigantic spider web that I could never get out.

Nevertheless, I believe on possibility, I believe people can change. I believe that there is no such thing human cannot accomplish. All I need is power of will to keep on trying until I defeat the challenge given in my life. Even one the genius inventor Thomas Edison said “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work”. Continuing the belief that Thomas Edison originally had I will continue to fight and yet, I have not failed, I won’t give up with out of fight until I reach my dream.

The True love

What is love? Is love something that automatically given by womb of Childs mother? Or is it the moaning of two singing birds? What makes love so strong that even death can’t stop the love? What makes love so powerful that it can even change the world? I believe love is important and greatest thing human can achieve while in earth. Having the capability of love someone or even to receive love, I think it is the greatest gift from the god. I have loved someone so much that until it rips out part of my heart and left me to tears, but even now I still love that person and I learned the true love from that person.

I believe love has strength, the strength that you can outstand thousands of pains and sadness. With love you can postpone the death like if it’s nothing. Love can make hellish place in earth into heaven; Love can give energy that no one else has, even early in the morning you rise with smile and happy feeling. Love has strength, it has strength that people relies on, just take look at all the music and movies in this world, 80% are relate to love. Why are we so depended on love? because love has unexplainable strength, which draws people into it.

I believe love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. I believe love is important than anything else in the world, not even money can beat the love, not even knowledge, not even successful career, without love it’s just empty can making empty hollow sound.

Media brainwashing for weight reduction

When did people start generalizing other people’s weight? When did people start comparing other people’s looks and their desirable fashions? It all began, when mass media came straight to people’s living room, and showed to younger generation of America that they have to be skinny in order to be attractive. Every day, more people are trying to follow what the famous idol stars looks like, even it takes chance of losing your health. In the short essay of “Beauty…and the Beast of Advertising” by Jean E. Kilbourne, briefly explains about how quickly current media can lead us eating disorders.

Furthermore, without realizing current media is greatly influencing people, and convincing them to how they should look. In a study on fifth graders, 10 year old girls and boys told researchers they were dissatisfied with their own bodies after watching a music video by Britney Spears or a clip from the TV show "Friends” (Mundel, 2002). If this is true, media has already made generalization on how human should look, unrealistically thin-ideal type of beauty. This generalization on weight did not begin recently, it started happening way back when the media was in eggshell. In the survey of Glamour magazine back in the 1984, 75 percent felt too heavy and only 15 percent felt right. Many of the reader who were actually underweight reported feeling too chubby or too fat, and they fell less confident, angrier and more dissatisfied with their weight and appearance (Glamour magazine, 1984). This evidence is from Jean E. Kilbourne short essay.

Second, I think what really influences women’s self-image is current views of people, and of course that is media. Media decide what people should look like and what is cool and not cool. At the end, it just point of view, the way how you look at things can make lot of difference. A one person might think heavy metal group KISS is engrossing, and might have point of view that everyone who dose Mohawk is crazy person, but one might think it’s just their style and passion. It’s exactly same on women’s battle on their weight. It really depends on how you look at things, if you are watching Angelina Jolie, or any other idol pop-star, or movies even, your point of view might become same as how media generalize peoples weight and how they should look. If your seldom movie watcher or doses not really have interest on Idol pop-star, you are going to have less effect on generalization on weight, as other people might seem media is already effecting us deeply in our mind, including how we judge people. According to New Age Journal from Jean E. Kilbourne short essay, even grade-school girls are succumbing to media which is unrealistically thin-ideal type of beauty, and where do they watched that from? Of course relentless parade of wasp-waisted fashion models and movie stars, including, pop idols. (Jean E. Kilbourne)

In addition, I have seen this kind of stories every day, but I have not yet seen anyone near around me who has bulimia or anorexia. Although, I have couple of friends who always annoys crap out of me with his or her weight, saying that they have to watch their weight because they are quite heavy, and can’t eat anything every time we hung out. This really annoyed crap out of me. If they are on diet, they should eat and then workout lot, to lose their weight. However, they are just too lazy, and all they want to do is sit around home all day play videogame. Also, if they were actually over weighted I would have understood, but they are not over weighted, which they are just picky about what they eat. Where did they learn how to be picky their weight? Of course media made them picky.

At the end, more people are brainwashed from media, and they have gained a basic generalization system on weight from media without noticing. Even though, Jean E. Kilbourne only mention about media’s effect on eating disorder, I think people have to start figuring out how you could prevent this brainwashing from happening. At the end it’s just a point of view.
