Help is already on its way with BCC.

The recent earthquake on Haiti has left us in sober, nevertheless BCC administrators felt same. That's why BCC is contributing donations for Haitian students to buy for the ticket to revisit their family and physically help them throughout the spring break of BCC. The nine students, who are now on their way to visit their family during the spring break of BCC, currently they have left the airport of United States since as the date of March 14, 2010, and they will be coming home by end this week.

The President of BCC, John J. Sbrega and the Vice President, Steve Ozug has been discussing the project to help Haiti, well as current administrator of BCC. Rather than just giving a large amount of donation to Haiti, or to a relief group, such as World Food Programe, or as well known Red Cross organization. The administrators of BCC wanted to specifically help the individual Haitian students who are currently attending BCC. In addition, BCC administrators and Vice president Steve Ozug had open discussion with Haitian student in the BCC, to get some ideas about what are the effective ways that BCC community can help the Haitian students. Eventually, many of the Haitian student proposed that it would be good if they get to visit their family and help their family situation throughout face to face.

Although, nine Haitian students from BCC already has left the airport of United State to airport of Haiti, the amount of money for BCC to buy airline tickets for nine Haitian students has not yet been reached. Since the amount of money for the Haitian student’s ticket was not enough by spring break, the international club in BCC has given the loan to buy the ticket for the Haitian student so they could visit their family during the weeks of spring break.

The ticketing was done by BCC’s associated travel agent, in order to make sure they arrive their safely and have place stay. Furthermore, there were few other Haitian students who also wanted to visit Haiti to help their siblings, but they have so many things going on with their own life, they simply couldn’t get excuse from the jobs. For those students who couldn’t travel since they have current job that they have to take care or any other reason, BCC is giving away any money that is raised above the requirements of ticket to the family of Haitian students who are currently struggling in Haiti. The administrators are making sure the contribution money will be transferred to the family who is affected by earthquake.

The Vice President Steve Ozug said “we are very close to reaching the amount of the money we need.” Also, student senate Abu Moro commented “it’s also nice to help people when they needed our help”. Previously Abu Moro and student senate has done bake sale for donation to Haiti students, they also donated a camera to Haitian students who are going to Haiti. In addition, Tutor club, International club, and Portuguese club has also went bake sale for donation to Haitian students.

This project is still on going until end of this semester, and the students who are coming back from Haiti would appreciate your support and donations as community in BCC. The location of donation box is in on G building, also for any large amount of donation will be accepted through enrollment center in G building.

Personal Statement
In 500 words or less, describe any personal circumstances or academic experiences (positive or negative) that you feel are important for us to know about you.

Did you know I was born eight month after the birth of internet? In March, 1989 World Wide Web was born. It was one of the historical moments of technology that really give us that wow feeling. Without realizing technology is already at our doorstep, like it’s our neighbor. Our world technological advance has already reached eutopia, with click of button I could order anything, anything starting from foods to largest order such as Nicola Tesla’s Tesla coil. With the click of button you could start video chatting from another side of earth. I was lucky because my father provided me with latest technology such as Intel 80486 microprocessor computer when I was seven years old. At the same time I was able to use internet when most of the children did not know the existence of internet.

Eventually, I was hooked on computers and I began building my first computer when I entered middle school. I have made so many computers since that time. I never gaze my eyes off computer at once. I ate near the computers, I slept near the computers, and I have basically lived with computer forever. I became so good with computers which I eventually opened a computer repair shop, when I was in high school. Furthermore, due to my father’s finical problem I wanted to help my father. During my high school, my father had found large cancer cell around his liver, and he was no longer able to work when I was in high school. So I started selling computers and fixing them when I was in high school, but What I did not realize was that my grade has fall down since I have put my all effort into selling computers rather than accomplish academic achievements.

Later on, I realize I wanted to do larger things. I wanted to build the stuff that no one else could think of. I wanted achieve unimaginable things that the most people haven’t thought of. I did not want to limit myself in the computers, but I wanted to build something greater. I wanted to build the automatic cleaning machine which will utilize the human time. I wanted to build a robot that will bring help to those disabled people. I wanted to control the light in my house with my voice. I wanted to drive my car from my cell phone. In order to bring all this to real life, I need more education. I enjoy learning, and thinking about bring these projects life make my heart go wonder. The greatest inventor Thomas Edison once said “I never did a day's work in my life. It was all fun.”

This is why I am applying in UMASS Amherst. Because UMSSS has one of the brightest computer engineering program far as I know. The students in UMASS already have made robots such as UBOT5. Far as I know attending UMASS is final frontier of my projects and goals, which eventually my dream will benefits the future and benefits to community. I also think greatest opportunity comes to people who know how to take great opportunity.

Metamorphosis

When I was age of seven, I could clearly remember the face of my mother who was standing front of me, asking me whether who I wanted to live with. Obviously I choose my father because my mother always hunted me with bamboo stick or physical therapy with rough slap. My mother was sharp as razor blade, also clean as Clorox. I was always in constant commend from my mother that I have to wash my hand thoroughly as I enter my house or in any activity. My clothes were always neatly in placed and she would be always constantly cleaning the house without using lots of amount time in cleaning. She didn’t allow single dust particle to touch my clothes nor myself.

Compare to my mother, my father was slow and lazy type of person, someone who would never able to complete my mother’s expectation to change. Eventually, she has given up the same routinely stressful life with my father. I even remember when my mother once asked me if I wanted to die with her, as if she wanted to commit suicide with me. Luckily, I did not make it to the front-line of the newspaper.

After the separation of my mother and my father, I was half adult. Living without the warmth of the parent, and having the freedom that seven year boy shouldn’t have. My father was always at work, I was all alone by myself. I lived in apartments, brick solid, and white color apartment. It was almost high as sky scraper twenty-three floor high. Every time I came back from the school, cold empty house waited me. No one was at home it was just empty dust and group of ants waited me quietly.

Education was not my best friend until I recently found out that I could not get the job I wanted. Only reason for this was lack of education. Before I was hooked on online games severely, since that was only way to depress my emptiness in my life. I use to leave my TV on before I go to sleep since I was scared of emptiness I felt when I was alone in room. These types of life pattern lead me to failure, a failure too late to be realized. I have failed in academic. I have failed for trying to achieve my goal and now I have failed for not achieving my dream. Without realizing I put myself into gigantic spider web that I could never get out.

Nevertheless, I believe on possibility, I believe people can change. I believe that there is no such thing human cannot accomplish. All I need is power of will to keep on trying until I defeat the challenge given in my life. Even one the genius inventor Thomas Edison said “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work”. Continuing the belief that Thomas Edison originally had I will continue to fight and yet, I have not failed, I won’t give up with out of fight until I reach my dream.

The True love

What is love? Is love something that automatically given by womb of Childs mother? Or is it the moaning of two singing birds? What makes love so strong that even death can’t stop the love? What makes love so powerful that it can even change the world? I believe love is important and greatest thing human can achieve while in earth. Having the capability of love someone or even to receive love, I think it is the greatest gift from the god. I have loved someone so much that until it rips out part of my heart and left me to tears, but even now I still love that person and I learned the true love from that person.

I believe love has strength, the strength that you can outstand thousands of pains and sadness. With love you can postpone the death like if it’s nothing. Love can make hellish place in earth into heaven; Love can give energy that no one else has, even early in the morning you rise with smile and happy feeling. Love has strength, it has strength that people relies on, just take look at all the music and movies in this world, 80% are relate to love. Why are we so depended on love? because love has unexplainable strength, which draws people into it.

I believe love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. I believe love is important than anything else in the world, not even money can beat the love, not even knowledge, not even successful career, without love it’s just empty can making empty hollow sound.

Media brainwashing for weight reduction

When did people start generalizing other people’s weight? When did people start comparing other people’s looks and their desirable fashions? It all began, when mass media came straight to people’s living room, and showed to younger generation of America that they have to be skinny in order to be attractive. Every day, more people are trying to follow what the famous idol stars looks like, even it takes chance of losing your health. In the short essay of “Beauty…and the Beast of Advertising” by Jean E. Kilbourne, briefly explains about how quickly current media can lead us eating disorders.

Furthermore, without realizing current media is greatly influencing people, and convincing them to how they should look. In a study on fifth graders, 10 year old girls and boys told researchers they were dissatisfied with their own bodies after watching a music video by Britney Spears or a clip from the TV show "Friends” (Mundel, 2002). If this is true, media has already made generalization on how human should look, unrealistically thin-ideal type of beauty. This generalization on weight did not begin recently, it started happening way back when the media was in eggshell. In the survey of Glamour magazine back in the 1984, 75 percent felt too heavy and only 15 percent felt right. Many of the reader who were actually underweight reported feeling too chubby or too fat, and they fell less confident, angrier and more dissatisfied with their weight and appearance (Glamour magazine, 1984). This evidence is from Jean E. Kilbourne short essay.

Second, I think what really influences women’s self-image is current views of people, and of course that is media. Media decide what people should look like and what is cool and not cool. At the end, it just point of view, the way how you look at things can make lot of difference. A one person might think heavy metal group KISS is engrossing, and might have point of view that everyone who dose Mohawk is crazy person, but one might think it’s just their style and passion. It’s exactly same on women’s battle on their weight. It really depends on how you look at things, if you are watching Angelina Jolie, or any other idol pop-star, or movies even, your point of view might become same as how media generalize peoples weight and how they should look. If your seldom movie watcher or doses not really have interest on Idol pop-star, you are going to have less effect on generalization on weight, as other people might seem media is already effecting us deeply in our mind, including how we judge people. According to New Age Journal from Jean E. Kilbourne short essay, even grade-school girls are succumbing to media which is unrealistically thin-ideal type of beauty, and where do they watched that from? Of course relentless parade of wasp-waisted fashion models and movie stars, including, pop idols. (Jean E. Kilbourne)

In addition, I have seen this kind of stories every day, but I have not yet seen anyone near around me who has bulimia or anorexia. Although, I have couple of friends who always annoys crap out of me with his or her weight, saying that they have to watch their weight because they are quite heavy, and can’t eat anything every time we hung out. This really annoyed crap out of me. If they are on diet, they should eat and then workout lot, to lose their weight. However, they are just too lazy, and all they want to do is sit around home all day play videogame. Also, if they were actually over weighted I would have understood, but they are not over weighted, which they are just picky about what they eat. Where did they learn how to be picky their weight? Of course media made them picky.

At the end, more people are brainwashed from media, and they have gained a basic generalization system on weight from media without noticing. Even though, Jean E. Kilbourne only mention about media’s effect on eating disorder, I think people have to start figuring out how you could prevent this brainwashing from happening. At the end it’s just a point of view.
